Action

I’m still thinking about the world’s shortest verse that I learned in Sunday School, “Jesus wept.” It not only shows that Jesus empathizes with the human condition, the story goes on to tell how compassion then caused Him to do something extraordinary at Lazarus’ grave.

In verse 38 & 39 of John 11 it says, “Jesus, once more deeply moved, came to the tomb. It was a cave with a stone laid across the entrance. ‘Take away the stone,’ He said.”

To feel for someone who is suffering or in need can be a powerful form of motivation. I read that Bono said one specific little boy in Africa changed his life. The sight of that little boy has sparked him to use his influence to speak up for those who have no voice and start campaigns against poverty and AIDS.

I guess standing in someone else’s shoes can alter our perceptions and cause us to do things differently. Helping someone else always helps us to
(BE)TTER.

Compassion causes action.
